The Family of EMIGRACJA

March 2000 (Updated March 2002) by Scott Benjamin

Imagine yourself on the All-Arabian version of the popular game show Jeopardy. Alex Trebek is decked out in the latest desert garb and the categories for the double jeopardy round pop up on the television screens. You are intrigued by the final category: COMMON DENOMINATOR. Confident in your equine trivia ability, you choose the entry level answer for $2000.

The answer: *Emanor and *El Mundo. You buzz in, smiling assuredly – “Who are the reigning U.S. National Champion Stallions?”

Alex gives you the nod and you continue on for $4000. The answer: Emanacja, Emigrantka, Emilda, El Dorada and Emanda. A bit tougher, yet your thumb responds immediately, followed by your eloquent question “Who are recent European Champion Females?”

Correct again, you move onto the $6000 answer: Emigrant, Emilda, Emanda, Emigrantka and Emanacja. You know your stuff, having been to Aachen the last two years – “Who are All Nations Cup champions?”

Right once more – the audience is impressed. You’re on a roll and request the $8000 answer: Emanor, Emanacja, Emira and Erlanda. Tricky, but again you prevail – “Who are Best in Show winners in Europe?”

Now even Alex is impressed as you rake in the cash and go for the glory with the final $10000 answer: Emigrantka, Emanacja, Erlanda, Ellada, Emilda, Emanda, Emonna, Emira, Edeon, Emigrant, Emrod and Emanor. The crowd gasps as Alex catches his breath. The other contestants stand paralyzed, as you click in with lightning speed – “Who are all Polish National Champions of the last decade?”

As the smile begins to spread across Mr. Trebek’s face, the studio erupts in thunderous applause. Now for the chance to double your winnings, you have thirty seconds to find the common denominator amongst all five answers. For the first time that evening your mind races, as several possible correlations bombard your mind at once.  All the names begin with the letter “E”. Too obvious – even the preschoolers playing along at home figured that out. All these horses are superlative examples of ideal Arabian type, conformation and athletic ability. Many would agree – but nonetheless, too subjective. All the horses were bred in Poland by Michalow Stud. True – but you know there is still more. The atmosphere frenzies with anticipation as time elapses, and you expound with a most astonishing question:

“Who are all descendants of EMIGRACJA?”

Now even the camera operator momentarily wavers in complete amazement as you step forward to reap your rewards, including a pile of cash sufficient to cover your show expenses at Nationals or line your pockets with enough credit to head off to the next Polish Prestige with dreams of purchasing the latest offering from Emigracja’s illustrious family for your very own.

EMIGRACJA

While the most recent successes of the EMIGRACJA family in North America may come as a surprise to many, they are regarded as a simple inevitability by those of us fortunate enough to track the ascendancy of this extraordinary group of equines from its humble beginnings. The EMIGRACJA family has been a major force in the show ring since its debut in 1986, and for the past decade has dominated all the major Arabian events in Europe. EMIGRACJA’s produce had already won an incredible 25 National Championship titles in Poland, 7 major titles each and numerous class wins at the all-important European Championships and All Nations Cup, 3 World Championship honors garnered by three successive generations at the Salon du Cheval, and a score of other prestigious international championships all across Europe including the spectacular dual U.S. National Stallion Championship in Albuquerque in 1999. What makes these statistics even more imposing is the fact that all but just two of these wins were accomplished through produce of dam, not the more traditional and expedient route via get of sire. Consider further that EMIGRACJA is not a relic of the past, but alive and well at a youthful twenty two years of age, with only six daughters having produced more than one foal and just four daughters over the age of ten. Of all her descendants, the furthest removed are great-grandproduce under five years of age. It is a record most astounding, and certainly one that stands alone at the leading edge of the Arabian breed.

1999 was a particularly prosperous year for the family of EMIGRACJA as they shattered records all across the globe. The momentum began at Scottsdale in February when two hot new imports sent the crowds into hysteria with exhilarating performances of Arabian attitude combined with sensational animation and explosive power at the trot. The first to hit the ring was *EL MUNDO, who scored an unprecedented unanimous sweep in Liberty, Stallions of 1995 and the Stallion AOTH Championship with owner Cory Sampson. An even bigger star arrived on the scene the following day, when *EMANOR trotted away with a unanimous win in the Stallions of 1992-93, leaving spectators giddy with excitement and trampling over each other on the way back to his stall for a closer look.  The females took over in May, when a member of the fourth generation won the class of yearling fillies and was named Reserve Junior Champion at the annual Polish Spring Festival in Bialka. Two other beauties, EMPIRYKA and EL DORADA, won the reserve championship in each section of the yearling filly classes, while the stunning ESPADRILLA, tied for third in the class for two-year old fillies. EMMONA would ride her victory through to the National Show in August, repeating both wins at Poland’s premier event and racking up an impressive seventh Polish National Filly title for her family. EL DORADA, EMPIRYKA and ESPADRILLA also made repeat appearances in the top five in their respective divisions. EMILDA * EMANACJA * EMIGRANTKA * EMIGRACJA EMMONA’s full sister EMBRA was a star amongst an incredibly breathtaking group of Monogramm daughters in the class for mares four to six years old, whereas former National Champion ELLADA added further glory with a strong Top Five win in Mares 7-10. The crowning achievement occurred in the final class of females, mares 11 and older, consistently the highest quality class of Arabians anywhere in Europe. This was to be the last show ring appearance for the veteran EMANACJA, who, still riding high from her victory the previous year at the All Nations Cup, went out in grand style, winning both the Senior Mare Championship and Best in Show honors. EMIGRANT contributed to the tally in the stallion classes with a Top Five finish in the class for males aged 5-10, establishing yet another record onto the long list of accomplishments of the family of EMIGRACJA at the Polish National Show: a winner in six of seven classes (with no member even eligible to compete in the final class of the day). A week later, *EMANOR would achieve his second international halter title, winning the Canadian National Reserve Stallion Championship in a close decision. The excitement continued to mushroom across the Atlantic in September at Europe’s principal Arabian exhibition, as EMIGRANT and EMILDA were awarded Reserve Senior Champion Stallion and Reserve Senior Champion Mare respectively at the All Nations Cup in Aachen. Yet the most decisive victories were gained in October at the U.S. National Championships, when *EL MUNDO scored first on four of five judges cards to be named National Champion Stallion AOTH, and *EMANOR triumphed over one of the deepest classes of stallions in years to win the world’s most prestigious halter title, in a decidedly and wildly popular decision. EMILDA added the final glorious rose to an already incredibly sweet and elaborately decorated gateau in November by winning the European Supreme Mare Championship in Verona.

Before we begin to unravel the details of just where each of these emerging stars fits in the rapidly expanding universe of EMIGRACJA let’s take a closer look at the Queen herself. First a bit of history - Born in 1980, EMIGRACJA is the fifth link in an unbroken line of eight generations of international champion females from one of the breed’s most successful distaff families – the dam line of Milordka. More specifically, EMIGRACJA belongs to the Saga branch through her great-great-grandam Estokada, a brawny, substantial, chestnut who won both the Polish Oaks and Criterium. Estokada was a highly esteemed daughter of legendary broodmare sire ESTOKADA Amurath Sahib and the most important foundation mare of the newly established Michalow Stud. Her immense value was manifest in her prodigious and prolific produce, namely National Top Ten English Pleasure Mare *Edycja, Polish Oaks winner Esterka, acclaimed sire of National champions *Eter and the very first European Champion Mare Estebna, who in turn is the dam of legendary U.S. National Champion Mare *Elkana, foundress of her own dynasty of champions in North America, who passed away in 2002 at age 32.

EMIGRACJA’s connection to Estokada comes through Polish National Reserve Champion Mare Eskapada, an ethereal white beauty of infinite worth. Eskapada produced U.S. Reserve National Champion Stallion *Erros, Canadian Top Ten Park Horse *Escudo, Regional Park Horse Champions *Era and *Estragon as well as the irresistible *Ekstaza, Polish National Champion Mare and the dam of enravishing ESKAPADAEuropean Champions Esklawa and *Emfaza. Eskapada’s eldest daughter *Espada is the grandam of EMIGRACJA. An Elysian beauty leased by Mike Nichols, *Espada won U.S. Top Ten Mare honors in 1978. Upon her return to Poland she produced the invaluable broodmare Estancja, dam of Polish National Junior Champion Filly and European Reserve Champion Mare Estarda as well as Polish National Champion Mare Ekscella. *Espada’s greatest contribution, however, was Polish National Champion Mare Emisja, a mare of consummate class and refinement. Emisja was lost at just 10 years of age, leaving only EMIGRACJA and international champion sire Enrilo as a legacy.

As a physical specimen, EMIGRACJA is a wonderfully complete package of all the best Arabian characteristics. EMIGRACJAI would not consider her extreme in any one area – just solidly well rounded, a model of sound conformation, plentiful breed type and overall athletic usefulness. She can best be described as most closely resembling the style and type of fellow Polish treasures Arra, Europa and Pentoda. I like EMIGRACJA best because she is as assuredly unassuming as her namesake, content in her daily routine at the stud as just another anonymous member of an elite herd of horses. Only when she is brought out in the annual Michalow Parade of Champions do her abundant virtues become eminently obvious, allowing her to stand out even amongst the brightest stars at the stud. In the true fashion of all classic Polish mares, EMIGRACJA continues EMIGRACJAto grow more beautiful and refined with age, resembling now more the noble stature of her dam, and epitomizing the very definition of maternal elegance.

EMIGRACJA was unshown as a filly and did not compete as a racehorse due to a serious injury suffered during the hasty unloading process at the track. While rehabilitating at Michalow, EMIGRACJA promptly assumed broodmare duties for the stud, and had produced six outstanding fillies by the time she made her show ring debut in 1991. At age 11 and in the prime of her life, EMIGRACJA walked away with the title of Polish National Reserve Senior Champion Mare. She bested even her eldest daughter EMIGRANTKA to win one of Europe’s most prestigious honors - a tranquil prelude to an incredible onslaught of victories that would dominate the Polish National show for the next decade.

To date, EMIGRACJA has produced eleven foals: an enviable record of ten fillies and just one colt. Only half of her daughters have been shown, and of those, all are champions internationally. Leading the pack are four marvelous daughters by Polish siring legend Eukaliptus. Each uniquely beautiful and virtuous in her own right, they collectively represent a more extreme and exotic type of Arabian than their modest dam. They all possess more prominent jibbahs, are abundantly longer and more shapely necked and are further blessed with a fervent desire to strut their stuff for a crowd.

The first to make a big impression was the eldest,EMIGRANTKA EMIGRANTKA, who debuted at the Polish National Show in 1986, winning the class for yearling fillies and grabbing the National Reserve Junior Filly Championship. The following year she won her class for two-year olds at the European Championships and again was awarded the Reserve Junior Champion Filly title. EMIGRANTKA’s next appearance was as a senior mare in 1991. Ready to dazzle after her win at the Polish National Show in the 4-6 year old mare class, she headed off to the European Championships in Aachen, winning her age group with the highest score of the entire show and capturing the title of European Champion Mare. EMIGRANTKAHer return to Polish Nationals in 1992 added further glory, as she was unequivocally judged Polish National Champion Mare and again awarded the highest point score of the show. I had the good fortune to see EMIGRANTKA win both senior mare titles – she was simply unforgettable and untouchable on both occasions. I screamed myself hoarse for her in Aachen – no need really, as the crowd welcomed her entrance to the ring with deafening applause and a spontaneous standing ovation. I have yet EMIGRANTKAto see a more beautiful creature grace the show ring anywhere in the world. I have always considered EMIGRANTKA the female equivalent of her legendary sire Eukaliptus, as she more closely resembles him than do any of his other champion daughters. Her most outstanding features are her incredibly long and graceful neck, a classically refined and beautifully shaped Arabian head, her abundance of enthusiasm and show ring exuberance and her ability to bring the house down with her trademark trot. She remains one of my all-time favorite mares, not only because she is an enrapturing beauty of timeless appeal, but because she has one of the most endearing personalities imaginable.

EMIGRACJA’s next daughter proved even more spectacular than EMIGRANTKA, besting all her sister’s show records with unprecedented ease. EMANACJAThis, of course, is the ethereal EMANACJA, reigning Polish National Champion Mare and the undisputed Best in Show. From the moment she hit the ground, the Poles knew they had hit the jackpot and proudly presented her at the biggest shows in Europe. EMANACJA was a stunning filly of incredible size and scope, with a perfectly balanced frame and a profusion of exotic beauty, effectively accentuated by a steely dapple grey coat color and an enchantingly white mane and tail of amazing body and length. She proved nearly unstoppable in the show ring, winning the Polish National and European Junior Filly Championships and World Reserve Filly honors at the Salon du Cheval. As a senior mare, she stood as Polish Reserve National Champion behind elder sister EMIGRANTKA and led the way to Poland’s victory at the 1998 All Nations Cup as Senior Champion Mare high scorer of the entire show. EMANACJA is every inch the queen and true to her namesake, emanates regal presence from every pore. Many would argue that she stands unchallenged as the best daughter of EMANACJAEMIGRACJA, and if the gravity of both her unparalleled show and production record are taken into account, I must be inclined to agree. EMANACJA is more the splendid combination of sire and dam, and best typifies the broody extreme of classic Polish elegance. EMANACJA possesses one of the best builds of any mare in the breed and has justly received perfect scores for body on several occasions. Her head is unquestionably the most beautiful of her entire family, and perfectly placed upon a slim and graceful neck. EMANACJA is not as dynamic on the move as is EMIGRANTKA, but nonetheless graceful and endearing on every occasion.

The third big winner of the EMIGRACJA/Eukaliptus cross arrived in 1990. This was the extravagant ERLANDA, a joyous creature of endless charm, who never failed to find delight in human company. She was the best conformed of all her sisters, substantial and strong with amazing length of stride and the most incredibly long and elegant neck I have ever seen on an Arabian mare. Most similar to EMIGRANTKA, ERLANDA possessed an absolutely gorgeous head, an exhilarating trot and an ardent zest for life. These virtues gave ERLANDA the upper hand as Best in Show and Senior Champion Mare at the Babolna International, as National Reserve Champion Mare of Poland, and as the prestigious class winner for mares 4-6 years of age at the All Nations Cup in 1995. Aachen proved to be Erlanda’s last whirl around the show ring, as she ERLANDAbecame the most tragic victim of silage poisoning at Michalow the following January. This loss was a major setback for Michalow, as she was destined to follow in the footsteps of elder her sisters. I adored ERLANDA immensely, and miss her now more than I could have imagined.

Already having given Eukaliptus his best daughters to date, EMIGRACJA gave siring credibility to Swedish National Champion Balon in 1991 when she produced the lovely bay ELLADA. Delicate and eminently feminine, ELLADA was a winner her first time out as a yearling, capturing the Polish National Reserve Junior Filly Championship. She returned to best her performance at the National Show the following year, winning her class and the eventual Junior Filly Championship, becoming the only mare to date to accomplish such a feat. In 1998, she added yet another title to her roster of achievements: Polish National Reserve Champion Mare, elevating the status of EMIGRACJA even further as the producer of an incredible four Polish National-winning senior mares. Of all the EMIGRACJA daughters, ELLADA possesses the most unique phenotype, reflecting more the classic style of Polish mare from decades past, abounding in the aristocratic elegance of Carmen, Bandola or Algeria. ELLADA is an example of perfect balance, transcendent type and quality, and is amazingly capacious in the body, being both deep girthed and well sprung in the ribs, despite her highly refined and slender structure. ELLADA has long been a favorite of all of Poland’s chief horse breeding specialists. I too must agree with their generous admiration, and expect her to establish her own distinctive branch of the EMIGRACJA family.

The other champion EFEMERYDAEukaliptus daughter out of EMIGRACJA is the broody and distinguished EFEMERYDA, sold in 1991 to Sweden as a maiden mare for $22,000. Once matured, EFEMERYDA became a regional champion and won her class at the Swedish National Show in 1997. Imposing in both size and substance with superb balance and harmonious coupling, EFEMERYDA most closely resembles EMANACJA in overall design. She is a powerhouse in motion, covering ground with tremendous impulsion and reach. Moreover, EFEMERYDA embodies the quiet dignity of her dam.

While the remaining daughters of EMIGRACJA have yet to see a show ring, each is considered an integral part of the international breeding programs of which they are a part. The eldest three are already well on their way to establishing world-class reputations. Full sisters ETENTA and EMOCJA (by Monogramm) rank highest, as they are both superlative blends of their preeminent parents. The exotic, high-trotting ETENTA is the more extreme of the two. Though small and delicate, ETENTA is blessed with her sire’s trademark classic Arabian head and ultra-refinement and has his ability to come alive in an instant with effortless and commanding charisma. An injury as a suckling kept ETENTA out of the show ring, but she was nonetheless wisely selected by Bishop Lane Farm as part of the Monogramm lease arrangement. She now has joined the largest collection of EMIGRACJA offspring outside of Poland at Halsdon Arabians, and in 1998 produced a strikingly handsome colt by Simeon Sadik. Younger sister EMOCJA, is the mare I would classify as most similar to EMIGRACJA overall. Despite the fact that she is slightly prettier in the head and a lovely rich shade of chestnut, EMOCJA is the phenotypic equivalent of her dam, replete with aristocratic quality and radiance, outstanding conformation, solid structure and substance, and a long, sweeping stride. I will not be surprised to see EMOCJA emerge successfully onto the scene as a mature mare in much the same style as did her dam. In the meantime, she remains content as a broodmare of the highest possible merit for Michalow.

The 1989 model out of EMIGRACJA was the respectable grey EKOLOGIA, sired by Polish Race Horse of the Year and All Nations Cup Champion Stallion Piechur. A pleasant mix of the good conformation, high quality EKOLOGIAand capable athleticism of both sire and dam, EKOLOGIA remains the only other daughter of EMIGRACJA to be offered at public auction, selling in the 1997 Polish Prestige for $26,000 to Halsdon Arabians. She has since developed into a broodmare of international distinction, credited with the production of the luminous EKOLETTA (by Endel), who sold for $75,000 to the Government of Turkey at last year’s Polish Arabian Festival.

In 1996 and 1997, EMIGRACJA delivered yet two more fillies by Eukaliptus: EMIGRA and EGERIA. They are very similar to each other and to 2002 filly Wojslaw x Egeria/EukaliptusEMIGRACJA in type, subtly noble and in all ways complete.  EMIGRA has joined older sisters EMIGRANTKA and EMANACJA in the elite broodmare band at Michalow. EGERIA now resides with the very fortunate Marsha Parkinson at her new farm in Maryland, and has the distinction of being the only EMIGRACJA daughter in the Western hemisphere. EGERIA has matured into a lovely broodmare of considerable merit. She delivered her first foal in 2002 - a stunning and exotic filly by National Champion Wojslaw, the same cross which produced multi-National champion *EMANOR.

With ten outstanding daughters to her credit, one could certainly hope for a breeding stallion out of EMIGRACJA. Thus far, the opportunity has presented itself but twice. The first colt arrived in 1992 by none other than Eukaliptus, but was sadly lost just days after his birth. The following year, EMIGRACJA produced another colt, EFEZ, by Canadian Top Ten Stallion Grandorr. A good colt of substantial structure and capable athleticism, Efez was simply not of the same standard of quality as his sisters and was gelded and sold abroad as a riding horse.

While the latest champions from the EMIGRACJA family share the common bond of their illustrious matriarch, most descend directly out of international superstars EMIGRANTKA and EMANACJA. Not only were they the most highly decorated show-winning daughters of the grand dame, but both EMIGRANTKA and EMANACJA have produced with peerless prepotency, creating a bevy of beauties and a score of splendid sires, all of whom have been winners either in the show ring or at the track.

EMIGRANTIn terms of quantity EMIGRANTKA leads the way with ten offspring, having produced a foal every year of her productive life since 1990. She is remarkably proficient at passing along her exuberant enthusiasm and barn-burning trot – every one of her foals simply oozes attitude aloft. Best known as the dam of outstanding stallions, EMIGRANTKA  has produced three international champion sons, two of which have already sired winners in Europe. Chief among these is EMIGRANT (by Ararat), who, in addition to his victory at the All Nations Cup, is the reigning European Champion Stallion, was a winner at the track along with being named Polish National Reserve Champion Stallion in 1997 and again in 2000. He is quickly gaining revered status as one of the best young stallions in Poland, as his get have consistently been winning at each Polish National Show from the moment they were first eligible to compete. His biggest winner thus far has been Swedish National Champion Stallion, Polish National Junior Champion EMRODColt and All Nations Cup class winner EMROD, a handsome young prospect who is linebred to Eskapada. His other notable winners include: Polish National Junior Champion Colt and Best in Show GASPAR; Polish National Reserve Junior Champion Filly PUSTYNNA ROZA: Top Five Fillies PRUDENCJA, CHIMERA and GROTESKA; and Top Five Colts EWERALD, WOLYN, ELTON, ARAD, MIGRANT, EL-FAJUM and ZACHODNI WIATR. EMIGRANT is now considered the chief progenitor of the Saklawi I sire line in the Polish breeding program, and is the sublimate manifestation of Poland’s “golden cross”, with Palas and Bandos appearing on both the distaff and sire sides of his pedigree.

EMIGRANTKA’s rising star in North America is National Champion EL MUNDO (by Monogramm), the horse most similar to his dam in overall style and appeal. I have long been a huge fan of this fine stallion, and lobbied hard to get him shown at the Polish National Junior Championships as a yearling. He scored extremely well both years he competed, missing the big prize by just a fraction of a point on each outing. *EL MUNDOEL MUNDO was fervently pursued by many of Europe’s top breeders after his first appearance at the Michalow breeding parade, and after a successful career at the track, was sagaciously purchased by Buckshot Farms in the 1998 Silent Sale. EL MUNDO was born to command the show ring, and is just beginning to make his mark in the Arabian world. In 2001, he captured the final title in the North American Triple Crown AOTH with owner Cori Sampson by winning the Canadian National Championship. More importantly, EL MUNDO is as pleasant and delightful to be around as his dam; I have enjoyed every single moment spent in his company. EL MUNDO’s younger and more moderate brother ERALD, a vibrantly striking chestnut with a more substantial and compact build has been a Top Five winner at the Warsaw Summer Show.

I also had the pleasure of showing EMIGRANTKA’s very successful son EDEON (by Eldon) at the Polish National Junior Championships. Powerful and dynamic, EDEON EDEON & Richard Davieswas destined for success from the beginning, as he made the in-utero victory pass not only with his dam, but alongside his sire as well, when they were both crowned European Champions in 1991. EDEON won his age group as both a yearling and two-year old, settling for the Reserve National Championship in 1992, and upgrading to the National Junior Championship the following year. EDEON was spotted by British foundation breeder Patricia Lindsay shortly after his brief racing career, and was purchased with the intention of incorporating the EMIGRACJA influence into her already world-renown herd of Arabians. EDEON has since been a successful show champion in England, and has given several high-class foals of remarkable quality and consistency.

EMANCYPACJAWhile the sons of EMIGRANTKA have well-established credentials, her daughters are only recently beginning to emerge as mares of profound nobility and value. The eldest of these is EMANCYPACJA (by Falsyfikat), a class winner at both the All Scandinavian Championships and the Swedish National Show - her only excursions into the ring. She enjoys leading mare status at the Kullatorp Stud of Maria Rehndal, and has produced two colts of National Stud quality. This mare can move with the best in the breed, and in her maturity, bears a striking resemblance to her dam.

EMARILLAThe flamboyant EMARILLA is a sumptuous shade of the deepest red and more along the lines of brothers ERALD and EL MUNDO, brimming with attitude and trotting as if her feet were on fire. At the age of four, she has already entered the broodmare band at Michalow with the highest of expectations, and figures most prominently in the continuation of her illustrious line.

The most extraordinary of the EMIGRANTKA daughters is EL DORADA, the first of the Sanadik El Shaklan foals born in Poland and unquestionably the very best. EL DORADAShe was a strong contender at both the Polish Spring Festival and the National  Championships in 1999, and promises to deliver future glory for the EMIGRACJA line. There are times when I believe her to be the most beautiful member of her family – she is simply that exceptional. If I could change her, I would simply feed her less, allowing her classic superiority to shine through the characteristic well-fed Polish profile.

Since my prediction in 2000, EL DORADA has dazzled the crowds all across Europe, as Polish National Junior Champion Filly, as class winner at the All Nations Cup and most triumphantly as European Junior Champion Filly.

It is assuredly refreshing to know that EMIGRANTKA has produced a worthy replacement in EL DORADA, and to know that her genetic contribution will be continued via the female line through both EL DORADA and EMARILLA, as well as through her latest addition, Polish Top Five Filly ENDORRA (by Pesal).

Topping EMIGRANTKA’s production record is certainly no small feat, yet EMANACJA stands poised to eclipse even the very best producing mares in Polish breeding history. Every one of her eight foals shown to date has been a winner at the Polish National Show – only the yearling EL MINIA (by Pesal) has yet to be shown. Leading the parade as EMANACJA’s biggest sensation is reigning North American superstar *EMANOR (by Wojslaw), currently on a roll as Scottsdale 2000 Champion English Pleasure. With National titles in three countries to his credit, *EMANOR's conquest began in 1998 when he was awarded the National Stallion Championship of Poland and Best in Show honors with a near perfect score. The fact that he is now achieving success under saddle is just an accurate reflection of his impressive career as a racehorse, highlighted by a strong placing in the Polish Derby. EMANOR adds a whole new dimension to the EMIGRACJA legacy with his success in North America, by affording western breeders the opportunity to benefit from a source of genetic *EMANORexcellence long admired by Europeans. His international appeal has done more to promote his world-class family than any other  horse before him, and I firmly believe that he is the best Arabian to come out of Poland in the last 25 years. His unsurpassed combination of superior attributes represents the zenith of modern Polish breeding, and raises the worldwide standard of excellence. EMANOR's first foals in North America are due to arrive this spring - I expect nothing but more record-breaking results from him. The future of EMANACJA’s only son now resides solely in the West, as *EMANOR was purchased by lessees Ron and Mila Hart during Scottsdale in February 2000.

EMILDAEMANACJA’s premier daughter in Europe is the enrapturing EMILDA (by Pamir), a mare with five international titles to her credit, including Polish National Junior Champion Filly, twice Polish National Reserve Senior Champion Mare and the aforementioned All Nations Cup Reserve and European Supreme Champion Mare laurels. To top it off, EMILDA was also the star of Polish Prestige 1998, selling for a whopping $200,000 to Shirley and Charlie Watts of Halsdon Arabians. Gorgeous, glamorous and genetically gifted, EMILDA is well on her way to surpass not only her dam’s impressive show ring accomplishments, but her production record as well. She left Michalow EMMONAwith three delightful fillies: EMBRA and EMMONA (by Monogramm) and the linbred ERYKA (by Eukaliptus). EMMONA was the first to extend the winning record of EMIGRACJA into the fourth generation with a huge win in Paris as World Junior Champion Filly, and is the eighth link in Estokada’s line of champions. Of all the sisters, EMMONA most closely resembles her dam with her exemplary build and profusion of type and  illuminance. ERYKA is a faithful representative of her Eukaliptus heritage - substantial, broody and effeminately regal. Now at the track, she should return to assume broodmare duties for Michalow in short order. My favorite of the three is the eldest, EMBRA, already a consistent EMIRAwinner as both a filly and mare and one of the leading members of Monogramm’s invaluable group of Polish-bred daughters. The exotic EMBRA was a knockout from birth and, while very similar to both EMILDA and EMMONA, is more extreme in the head and slimmer necked, with an added touch of more delicate refinement overall. Like her granddam EMANACJA, EMBRA hit the jackpot with her first foal and delivered the stunning EMIRA (by Laheeb), 2001 Polish National Junior Champion Filly and Best in Show winner. Her wins extend EMIGRACJA's show ring credentials into an incredible fifth generation and Estokada's unbroken line of champions to the ninth generation.

EMANDA

EMANACJA’s look-alike daughter EMANDA (by Ecaho) is another big winner with 1998 Reserve Junior Champion Filly titles at the All Nations Cup, the Polish National Show and the Polish Spring Festival. She is a dead ringer for her dam at the same age, complete with identical coat color and that glorious white mane and tail. Like *EMANOR and EMILDA, she is a spectacular mover, covering ground with animated and aristocratic elegance. I am so looking forward to watching this filly mature into the equal of her dam and elder sisters – she will undoubtedly contribute much to the further advancement of her line.

2001 was a very good year for EMANDA and a chance for Michalow to prove that there is power in their broodmare band beyond the glorious daughters of Monogramm. Overwhelming the competition with her impressive size, abundance of beauty and her incredible front end,

EMANDA

EMANDA won the class for 4 to 6 year old mares at  both the All Nations Cup and European Championships and taking home the titles of Reserve Senior Champion Mare from both competitions. Upping the ante at Paris, she easily bested all her former competitors from earlier in the season, winning Class A with style and taking home the ultimate honor of World Champion Mare.

EMANACJA has produced three outstanding daughters by Monogramm: EMBELLA, ESPADRILLA and EMPIRYKA. Each exquisite in her own right, the best is arguably ESPADRILLA. Why this filly has been thus far robbed of a National title in Poland completely escapes me – perhaps it is her disdain for public appearances, not unlike the attitude often adopted by her dam. Michalow Director and Deputy Director Jerzy and Urszula Bialobok hold ESPADRILLA in highest esteem, and she must rightly be considered one of the best fillies ever produced in Poland. Her older sister EMBELLA put on an incredible display of Arabian type and presence at the Polish National Show as a two-year old. Amazingly, she came in a disappointing fifth – again, we wait for future vindication. Despite these show ring injustices, all three fillies figure prominently into the Michalow breeding program and promise to do much to promote the virtues of their meritorious dam.

EMPIRYKA has since done much to vindicate her sisters by claiming the title of Polish Spring Show Reserve Junior Champion Filly in 2000 (behind "cousin" EL DORADA").

EMANTA

EMILDA’s full sister EMANTA has already made an invaluable contribution to the future of Michalow in EMANTKA (by Eukaliptus). An unqualified stunner, EMANTKA was awarded reserve champion honors in the class of yearling fillies at the Polish Spring Festival in 1997.  She is splendid combination of feminine charm and maternal capacity, with a lovely, well designed head, generous length of neck and admirable substance and strength.

DIRECTOR JAWOROWSKIFortunately for Michalow and the entire Arabian world, ERLANDA left one incredible filly before her untimely demise – the enthralling ELANDRA (by Monogramm). Already a Top Five winner in Poland and a Stakes qualified runner at the track, ELANDRA is an exotic beauty of superlative Arabian type and refinement. Somewhat small, she is nonetheless virtuous in every area of evaluation and represents the very best of Michalow breeding. She brings to mind the mesmerizing image of Esklawa at the same age (now a Polish and European Mare of legendary status), except that she is even more finely sculpted in the head and possesses a longer, more gracefully shaped neck. ELANDRA is the finest example of the modern Polish Arabian mare, and a fitting tribute to her immortal dam.

EMIGRACJA with the author in 1992No exposition on Emigracja would be complete without paying homage to her breeder and the man who has not only masterfully envisioned the creation of every member of the illustrious Emigracja family from Estokada right through to present day, but has capably guided their careers as international stars and prolific breeding animals. That man is retired Michalow Director Ignacy Jaworowski, a living legend of incomparable genius and the person most assuredly gratified with Emigracja’s resounding worldwide acclaim. Many new owners and breeders have now entered the fold, and we look to them to pave the way to even greater heights.

I remain the “unofficial” interplanetary spokesperson for the family of Emigracja, and breathe a great sigh of relief, now that I can safely abandon my fool-hearty t-shirt/button/bumper sticker promotional option, emblazoned with the shameless slogan “ASK ME ABOUT EMIGRACJA!!!” There is no longer any need to pursue such drastic measures, as the latest Emigracja editions gain momentum and gather legions of supporters. Further glory and adulation most certainly lie ahead, with the entire Arabian world now in line to reap the rewards.
